Before we begin, I’d like to give my deepest condolences to the families of the seventeen young lives lost during the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. As a parent of children who were present in a school when a shooting occurred, my heart goes out to them. I am proud of the students who have formed an alliance and are taking a stand for policies and legislation that affect them. Parents, please talk to your children about what is going on in their lives.
Let’s Do This
Well, ladies and gentlemen, February has come to an abrupt end! I’m just being dramatic because it’s the shortest month which leaves limited time to accomplish goals. So how did you do? If you’re anything like me, I like to write short, bullet point attainable goals for each month. I share them with you for two reasons; I want to be held accountable and I want to inspire you to do more and talk less. By the way, I’m currently listening to a song titled Lam Them by a Vietnamese group called Wowy. Lam Them means “extra work” but I am trying to find the translation for the song. It’s such a dope beat and I’d like to know what the song is about. In this post, we will talk about how I did in several life categories last month and what I’ve learned. I’d like to hear how your month went as well!
It’s All About the Money
Last week’s post was a synopsis about how my visit with my financial planner went. That went well, but I have some work to do. I’m glad that I was armed with knowledge and the right questions before I stepped into that office. I would like to reiterate that you do not have to hire a financial planner, it was my preference. I did reach my savings goals for the month which was a plus. Although I hired a planner, I still listen to finance podcasts and I read financial blogs. If you dont mind, I’d like to recommend Mr. Money Mustache and Get Rich Slowly.
Valentine’s Day was fun and inexpensive. We cooked and watched movies. Therefore, every day is Valentine’s Day. Readers, do you celebrate or is it cliché? Inquiring minds want to know.
Nothing new here, besides making sure that I’m drinking enough water. As petty as this sounds, I had to start tracking my water intake because I noticed that I wasn’t quite getting half my body weight in ounces every day. For one, I drink diet tea which is not the best choice. So, I needed some guidance. Such a slacker!
Podcast and Online News to Pay Attention To This Month
This month, I’ve been listening to these interesting, thought-provoking, and entertaining podcasts for politics and pure uncensored entertainment: The Read, The Friends Zone, It’s Been A Minute, and Getting’ Grown. Sometimes, this is the only way for me to catch up on current events and juicy gossip. Disclaimer: Some podcasts may not be appropriate for kids, so wear your wireless headphones.
In addition to listening to current events, I’ve been reading Salon, The Root, and The Onion. The writers take a realistic, entertaining approach to what’s going on the world we live in. Also, if you like satirical writing, this is it!
On a Personal Note
One thing that I take pride in is doing my best to support others in their personal endeavors. However, what I’ve learned is not to expect support in return. Do it because you want to do it, not because you feel obligated or you want a return on your investment. I’ll let that sit there!
Below is a list of goals that I would like to accomplish during the month of March:
- Estate Planning- at least begin the process.
- Save $300 in either of my accounts.
- As always, kick up that car payment a notch by at least $100.00.
- Reading and studying-work related material. That sounds fun, doesn’t it?
Readers, what’s going on in March? Drop it in the comments!
